aart architects wins campus project in sweden

09-01-2012

In collaboration with Schonherr, we have won the competition for the new Campus Park Skara, including a 10,000 sq. m. school building and a 49 acre park. The campus is located in Skara in Sweden and provides the framework for a vibrant learning environment by integrating the architecture as an active learning element.

The architecture thus motivates the students to interact with the school building, as the floors, walls and furniture are designed as sensuous and pedagogical elements which can be included in the daily schooling. Likewise, the school has integrated touchscreens at the central square and weather stations in the park, so the students easily can gather data about the building´s energy consumption and the local climate.

The school is designed as an atrium building rooted in a public square. The public square is designed as the heart of the building and the social dimension is also being expressed in the exterior, as the school in a dynamic gesture stretches out towards the green park.

aart architects becomes an ambassador for wooden architecture

06-01-2012

In order to promote a more sustainable building culture, we have initiated a collaboration with the Danish wood initiative "Træ Er Miljø" (in English "Wood creates Environment") to become an ambassador for wooden architecture.

As an ambassador for wooden architecture, we strive to create awareness of the environmental qualities of trees, whether they grow in forests or are used in buildings. By this means, our vision is to achieve long-term effects on the building industry´s stance on wood as a sustainable raw material.

Over the years, we have created several wooden architecture projects and have thus gained a deep insight into the environmental qualities of wood. Our experience with wooden architecture manifests itself in projects such as FDF Outdoor Centre Sletten situated in the beautiful landscape of hills and lakes in Ry (DK) and Norwegian Wood situated on the urban seafront of Stavanger (NO).

aart architects promotes corporate social responsibility

20-12-2011

As a member of United Nations Global Compact, we have handed in our second Communication on Progress report, formulating our commitment to implementing corporate social responsibility into our business strategy and day-to-day operations.

Social, economic and environmental challenges affect the building industry more than ever before. Therefore, we recognise the need to collaborate with research institutes, knowledge-based companies and transnational organisations, as sustainable development can only be achieved by encouraging knowledge sharing between various sectors.

This understanding is reflected in our continuing support for the United Nations Global Compact which is the largest voluntary corporate responsibility initiative in the world and provides a practical framework for sustainable development.

skagen skipperskole opens its doors to the public

13-12-2011

The guests had to hold onto their braces when Skagen Skipperskole was inaugurated in a strong gale on the 9th of December. However, the gale-force wind didn’t curb the joy as the city of Skagen finally is able to offer a vibrant learning environment for the future education of skippers and chief officers.

The principal, staff and students were delighted with the building which faithful to the values of the school is designed as a sculptural ship situated between the city and the sea overlooking the wild forces of nature.

"The architecture expresses the spirit of adventure that through history has characterised the men and women who have chosen the sea as their workplace. We have thus strived to create an architectural symbol of the proud, maritime traditions," Torben Skovbjerg, partner in AART architects, emphasised in his speech at the inauguration.
